Welcome MODIband

MODIband provides a full range of services to organise open-air cinema events. We don’t just arrange the screening; we can take care of everything else, too. If you need a full programme or a regular event with its own personality, we can provide all-round assistance. From curating the programme and managing and securing film rights to the technical production of events and guidance and support for promotion.

Projects

The main goal of Modiband’s projects is to promote independent, quality films, both for adult audiences at open-air festivals, and for younger audiences, by organising and distributing auteur films for children. The aim is always to reach the widest possible audience through activities that are rich in artistic quality and educational potential. Moreover, Modiband always seeks to create a balance between the public success of events and the cultural goals that the organisation pursues.

Clients

Both public institutions and private enterprises have put their faith in us since we first launched MODIband in 2003. The experience accumulated from our own successful initiatives persuades clients to trust us, appreciating our capacity for creating, assisting and managing services. MODIband can organise any event, from one-off film showings to full movie seasons. We adapt to each client’s needs, working with our partners to build quality events that operate smoothly and attract large audiences.

About Us

MODIband is a cultural enterprise that specialises in film. Founded in 2003, MODIband combines the organisation of in-house initiatives with the provision of services for other companies and institutions. The MODIband team is formed by professionals from different fields who share their love of film and their insistence on the highest quality in the projects they coordinate.

When Nathalie Modigliani, Mireia Manén and Guillem Galera founded Associació Cultural MODIband, they had no business plan in mind. They merely shared a dream: to create an open-air film event in Barcelona that was totally different from all similar initiatives that they had seen in the city. Taking a Paris festival as their inspiration, they roamed all around the city to find a venue with grass lawns and charm, and with capacity for large audiences. Because if they were sure about one thing it was that they wanted this to be a huge, popular, accessible event, one that could attract audiences of all kinds. However, public success should not be incompatible with the quality of a programme featuring independent films shown in their original version. And so it was that, without any previous experience in cultural management, but with plenty of enthusiasm, they launched what is today one of the most prestigious and beloved open-air film festivals to be found anywhere: Sala Montjuïc. This open-air festival is an initiative that won spectacular success among film-lovers from the first. Perhaps because lack of experience drove them to work particularly hard, perhaps because they had a very clear idea about what they wanted to do and about the essential features of the initiative: quality programme, accessibility and social cohesion.

The team have shared many adventures since that summer of 2003, but all the projects they have undertaken always maintain the same premises, whether they are in-house productions launched by the association itself or projects undertaken by the company established in 2010 to provide professional services to third parties. The company is led by a highly-qualified, multi-talented group of people who believe in their work and in what MODIband represents today.
MODIband loves film and believes in culture as a source of personal and collective enrichment, as it reflects the creative and ideological diversity that exists in the world and acts as a driver for social change. These are the values that accompany us in our work, along with a sense of responsibility to our clients to ensure that all our projects are meaningful and rich in quality, and generate a social return.
